Plan by season

When is the best time to visit Romania?

For a broad Transylvania journey, late May, June, September and early October are excellent starting points. But the best month depends on whether you want mountain days, beaches, snow or a quieter cultural trip.

March to May

Spring begins quietly, with changeable conditions at altitude. Late spring suits city-and-castle routes, green landscapes and lighter visitor numbers.

June to August

Summer brings long days, mountain access and the strongest Black Sea season. Popular routes and weekends can be busier, so pacing and confirmed rooms matter.

September to November

Early autumn is one of the most balanced periods for Transylvania: comfortable touring weather, harvest season and rich colour. Higher routes become less predictable later in autumn.

December to February

Winter suits atmospheric towns, festive markets, snow experiences and spa time. Conditions vary by altitude; winter equipment and flexible activity planning are essential.
